After much demand Studio4 now create professionally design contemporary Garden Rooms, which are delivered and installed by our in-house experienced team. All garden rooms are completely bespoke and can be tailored to suit any size or shape of garden. If you are interested in a garden room, we have written this blog to give you more information about these structures and the benefits that come with having one.

What Is A Garden Room?

A garden room can be described as a living room outside, it has also been termed a solid roof conservatory.

Garden rooms have become extremely popular over the last few years as more homeowners are seeing the benefits that come with having this extra space. Many people are not in the position to be able to build an expensive loft conversation or extension, and traditional conservatories are known to be very cold in the winter months. All leading towards the fantastic option of an insulated room outside in the garden.

There are countless things a garden room can be, and therefore what it can be used for. In short it can be anything you want! Some examples:

  • Garden office

  • Attractive guesthouse

  • Practical extra space for your house

  • A quiet retreat

  • Comfy home spa or gym

  • Summerhouse

  • Guesthouse

What Are The Benefits?

A garden room can be an extension of your house, but without the upheaval. It doesn’t require having any walls knocking down leaving some of your home in a manic state for possibly weeks, as garden rooms can be installed in a fraction of the time. Once installed the room is ready to use, no waiting around for the electrician to finish so the whole process of obtaining this extra living space is completed in the blink of an eye.

Also, with extension projects you can be limited as to where and what you can attach to your property without creating architectural imbalance. With outdoor rooms you have complete freedom with the positioning as they are a stand-alone unit.

As mentioned above, a garden room can be whatever you want it to be - an office, gym or just a calm area for you to settle down and read a book. You can decorate your garden room to match your house by wallpapering or painting the same or do something completely different with the space.

Planning Permission

Garden Buildings are considered Permitted Development and do not usually require planning permission. However, if the building is placed less than 2.0m from the boundary the eaves have a maximum height of 2.5m from existing ground level. With a maximum overall height of 4.0m for a dual-pitched roof and 3.0m maximum overall height for a flat roofed building. Please be aware these are the general guidelines but may not apply to your direct situation, therefore it is advised you double check with an architect.
